Intro
Why is this on my list.

253.✓Greece–Monastiraki flea market.

The reason this flea market is on my bucket list is very simple – I’m always looking out for a good deal and I love seeing old stuff.

Also, when you go to a flea market, you see the culture and artefacts that are not only historical but also ones that people themselves deem important. When you get a chance to see something in a huge city like Athens or Paris or Montreal that allows you to actually look deeper into the culture itself, it’s a special thing.

I remember there was a time when I was in China and I went to an antiques market and found old love letters from people during the Mao’s revolution.

It was quite heartbreaking but also very interesting, and it’s a good experience just to have that. Another odd thing I saw there was old Chinese foot-binding shoes.

The story.
Me and Rachael are walking around and right next to our hostel is the famed Athens flea market, a place where you can go to find the ancient, the interesting and also a lot of dusty crap that nobody would ever want.
It’s early in the morning and we both have a coffee in our hands as we are walking through the centre square of Athens. Luckily enough we hang a left and we spot the sign saying “Welcome to Athens flea market”. We were quite surprised that we were so close!
We start wandering around just for fun but not before we take a photo of me standing in front of it, because if I’m going to be a tourist I may as well act like a tourist! We wander through as people are just trying to open their shops as they rub the sleep out of their eyes.
They have their own coffee’s to sip. We see a couple of stores selling cheap brands of clothes and some touristy crap that nobody really ever wants, but after a couple of stalls we start to find other things – old dust covered paintings and some stuff that you normally wouldn’t see, like old pieces of art and metal statues of Greek gods.

Now, this is the stuff I like to see! From there we keep going and start seeing more and more interesting stuff, like old books, playboys and stuff like that. Eventually, we make it to the end, out of breath and sweating because of the hot sun beating down on us.
We are both very interested to go back as we will be back in Athens in afew weeks and we do hope to see it again to take some photos and hopefully I can get a knife. That would be fun! I’m sorry I didn’t buy anything the first time but the second time I really am going to try and buy something.

You only live once and to get a thing from a place I’ve never been I think is cool, especially to get it at a place like a flea market as it often lends a bigger and more interesting story.

It’s definitely something that I will do in a lot of countries that I go to with Rachael as we both have an interest and we both have a want to see that stuff, but I hope you guys enjoyed the post! I love you all and thank you for following me.
