Why is this on my list.

36. ✓Taiwan–Go through Raohe street market.

The reason that this market is on my bucket list is because it has one of the most famous burgers in Taiwan, and Taiwan is famous for its street food.

The story.

It’s nighttime and I’m wandering the streets of Taiwan with a friend. What am I doing, you may ask? I’m going to one of Taiwan’s famous night markets – the Raohe market is an amazingly beautiful place full of all the wonders of the world, where you can get French lingerie next to fried squid tentacles.

I just realized that it sounds Japanese but this is Taiwan. I and my friends are three beers in each and slightly tipsy, wandering around from stall to stall looking at things we can get. We play some claw machines and I fucking lose, we get some bubble tea and it’s a delicious great mix of sweet and sour. To the left and right of us are people are living their beautiful lives… lovers going out on dates; old men and women chatting about life and drinking; and people cooking delicious food.

As I walk past each stall it’s a new style of smells from sweet to salty and meaty, and even the famous stinky tofu. I see huge a line and the first thing I think is whatever its selling I’m having it so I queue up and after about 10 to 20 minutes of just waiting eventually get to the front. By this time I know what is in the stall – baked beef buns. Eventually, it’s my turn so I order one of each flavor – spicy and not spicy. I and my friend sit on the curb and by then it’s incredibly hot and burns my mouth almost instantly like its molten lava, but oh my god it’s delicious! The steam is wafting up over my face and it’s like a mini sauna.

In that moment everything is perfect – the night sky, the people passing us, the delicious food in my hand, and the beer. Nothing in this world could be wrong. Eventually, we finish, crinkle up the paper and throw it into the garbage, and off we go on the lookout for more delicious food – it isn’t that hard to find! I hope you guys like this post and I really hope you guys get to try the street food. Love, you always you are the best.
