174.✓France–See the Sausage Stained Glass of the Eglise Saint Eustache.

Intro
Why is this on my list.

Why the hell not – it’s hilarious, and it’s something that you would never expect to find in a church but it makes sense when you think about it. It’s a beautiful piece of art that makes you laugh and also stained glass is always beautiful.

The story.
Saint Eustache Church is an old Gothic church whose beauty rivals Notre Dame, with its high vaulted roof that echoes sound perfectly.
It seems like a place that a mob boss would sit down and do a deal but that’s not the reason me and Rachael are there today; we are looking for a stained glass that’s not exactly what you might be thinking. It’s not some beautifully depicted Christ on the cross or anything like that, but it’s actually something quite funny. It is like the description of this post says – it’s a sausage stained glass depicting the love and passion for pork and sausage within Paris.
Hey, you can’t complain about something like that. Me and Rachael were both incredibly surprised about this as we didn’t exactly know what to expect. As we enter the church I whisper a proposition for a game – the first one to find it wins. “What’s the prize?” she asked.
We agreed that if she wins I will give her a back rub, so we both start (quietly) running. We take a left as all of the people look at us like we’re typical tourists, and luckily I find the stained glass within a couple of minutes.
It was sitting there on the top of the second glass pane back by the entrance – a tiny pig depicted in glass with “corporation charcuterie” written around it.
I let out a little muffled scream like Hermione getting the question wrong, surprised that I won. Rachael comes up, confused by my alarm and kisses me on the cheek well done. We both giggle and laugh and look at it, how funny it is. Eventually we tear our gaze from the prize and look around, and realize the church that we’re are in is huge, and is probably one of the most beautiful churches with its high vaulted ceilings and Gothic-style pillars.
Every single corner is filled with old art and it takes our breath away. We both hold each other’s hands and squeeze thinking how lucky we are to be standing in such a dazzling place.
We look at each other and give each other a little kiss and start wandering around, almost absolutely forgetting we crossed something off the bucket list as we look at all the different huge stained glass windows, with the sunlight shining through them giving us a spectacular spread of color, as if an artist just threw his paint tray against the wall hoping for the best.
It’s stunning on so many levels. This is one of the reasons why I love travelling – I can see the beauty that I never get to see in my small town in Canada. After a couple of minutes of wandering around looking at all the beauty that surrounds us and listening to the organ play, we decide that it’s time for us to take some photos so we pull out my camera and shoot some photos of the stained glass windows, trying to be as respectful as possible because it doesn’t feel right taking photos in such a beautiful church. After we take photos and wander out the first thing I do sit in front of the church and just take it all in.
I always feel in awe when I get the chance to do stuff like this and I truly feel the impact of what I’m doing. I really hope you guys are all healthy and safe, I love you all and I’ll see you on the next post.
