185.✓France–Go to Shakespeare and Company

This amazing book store is on my bucket list solely because of the true love and passion that the creator had. She was a champion of art, literature and suffrage and she also gave the middle finger to Hitler. This place is so beautiful, every corner is filled with history and love, it is a beautiful bookstore and I’m proud to have it on my bucket list.

The story.
Paris is such a beautiful city – every single corner you turn you see people painting, singing, basking and just living the beautiful life.
There are also a lot of problems within Paris, however, such as the level of poverty and people who need help. But there is still an air of beauty if you know where to look and one of the best places you can look is a beautifully inspiring bookstore where every crack and crevice is not only its own story but also a picture that’s worth way more than 1000 words.
Me and Rachael were wandering around the streets of Paris looking for this bookstore and I was getting a little stressed because it was something that I really wanted to see – a famous bookstore which was the stomping ground for the likes of Ernest Hemingway and other famous writers and artists, so needless to say I really want to get there. With broken French and Rachael’s Wi-Fi we got to where we needed to go.
It’s really hard to miss as it’s right next to a beautiful square in the centre of the city. It just seems like such a cultural place where people can flip through books and read them whenever they want. At least that’s what I noticed as I walked through the door. It did truly have the smell of an old bookstore if that makes sense! The whole place smelled like an old box and I loved it. I went up to a gentleman and started chatting with him, turns out he is from America and he told me that he has a passion for books.
Eventually me and Rachael start wondering around and enjoying ourselves. It’s a little bit of a maze and every nook and cranny is filled with books and couches. We can read books and even play instruments there. It was such a truly inspiring moment to see such a beautiful place where you can truly get lost in yourself within in different worlds. After a couple of minutes wandering around checking out the books I started to hear a beautiful piano being played. We climb the stairs to the first floor and start listening to a random person playing some of the most beautiful in-depth piano I’ve ever heard.
Just to make everybody laugh he played different songs from different movies too. Me and Rachael cuddle up on the side of the couch and start listening; that is something you don’t get in most bookstores. It was a beautiful moment to share with a group of people. This man was amazing and I really do wish him the best. But after listening to that music me and Rachael realized we spent a couple hours or so in this bookstore and we had to get going. It’s also a very historical place here where people fight for the rights of others and traded ideas freely, it’s one of those things that happens in the free world in every society that I think we need more of in this world.
This is the reason why I want to open up a bookstore just solely because of how beautiful, heartfelt and amazing it can be. I do truly hope you guys get a chance to go to the bookstore, it is life-changing and it’s one of those times you can see where people from all different backgrounds and all different religions go to and just enjoy reading.
I love you all and I’ll see you on the next post.
