Intro
Why is this on my list.

The reason Eat at the Alice of Magic is I have always been a fan of Alice in Wonderland, and once I found out in Japan that they have a restaurant. Themed as Alice in Wonderland. I had to go

The story.
We’re all mad here.
we’re all mad here.
we’re all mad here.
we’re all mad here.
we’re all mad here.
we’re all mad here.

“The Cheshire cat”

-In a cool narrators voice-

We start our story In the lonely back streets in downtown Tokyo, we see our Canadian wandering with his friend looking for one of the things on his bucket list. Let’s go down and have a look to see what is going on shall we?

Dane-where are we?

Lina- I have no idea, Dane.

Dane- I feel so lost; I can’t find the restaurant.

Lina-Is that not what you love about travelling?

dane- ……….. (in his head) Fuck she is right.

Back to the story.

The time I spent in Japan can be summed up like that oh so beloved Japanese game of pachinko. Where a silver ball bounces randomly over a brightly colour beautiful board. Just be the ball, just be the ball, that was my mantra.  Not only will you find what you are looking for (unless you forget) but also some beautiful crazy and out of this world Things.Walking down the street, you may look left and you see a 500-year-old temple.  Then you look right you see a 5 story sex store. Then you get thirsty and go into a 7-11 and find yourself drinking an ice cold Pepsi Salty Watermelon drink (it is a real thing). Then you go Down an alley, you open the door that you have been looking for; the smell of delicious food comes wafting.

You follow the smell and walk down a couple flights of stairs. Then you find yourself face to face with the A bodyguard. This is not the regular bodyguard that you would normally see. He is a 6-foot playing card with a sword and helmet. Did you just walk into some weird BDSM fantasy form Fifty Shades of Grey? Nope, you walked into Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A restaurant based off of the Lewis Carroll ’s famous books.

And down the rabbit hole, Lina and I go, when we start walking down the stairs. The Only thing I wish is we can be falling down a rabbit hole just like in the book but I would assume that the insurance would be too expensive. But we make it to the door and just before I open it I look at Lina and smile with a look of true excitement. Like when Alice was chasing the rabbit down the hole.We walk in and a cute Japanese girl in a perfect costume of Alice greets me and Lina, with one of the most heartwarming smiles I have ever had.  She gives me and Lina rabbit ears to put on and asked us to follow her. We walk through the doors and all we see is a giant silver carrousel with a bunch of seats around it filled with people just like me living their fantasies.

It is mesmerizing and then I Notice that every inch of the walls is covered in artwork from the books. It looks like some cross between Lewis Carroll ’s book and an acid trip and I love it. The Japanese Alice sits me and Lina down, we lock eyes on each other. We can’t hold it in Anymore, we start laughing.

We try and stop giggling when Alice walks back with a beautifully decorate menu filled with some original art from the book with hilarious themed dishes. We were not that hungry but we decided we’d get a dessert each and an appetizer With a couple drinks. What a beautiful experience, we wait a couple of minutes. we start discussing life, love and what truly makes us happy. Alice comes back with a smile and the food. To say it looks amazing would be an understatement, the plating looks like a piece of art.

We dig in. The food itself is pretty good. I thought it would be better but you can’t win them all. It does not help that I just when to bar Hight 5; one of the nicest bars in the world. I still love everything about this place, it is absolutely amazing. It is nice to live your fantasy even if it is just for a bit.  as me and Lina are eating together, chatting and enjoying this weird and wonderful meal. I start to realize how much time it must’ve taken in them to build this place.

There’s art everywhere even the no smoking sign is Alice in Wonderland themed. Anyways, we finish our meal we get up, pay And go on our way. Forever remembering that moment that we went into an Alice in Wonderland themed restaurant it was absolutely beautiful and absolutely amazing.

Fun Facts:

  • . Mock Turtle soup is real.

Essential Information:

It does get a little busy so try and go in the off hours,  Once you get there understand that there is a ¥500 per person charge for the seat because a lot of people were going there and just buying one dish between both of them sitting for hours. Involving what you should order, honestly just play by ear what you feel but they actually have really good coffee, and the mixed drinks are delicious. It’s not the worlds best food but it’s still pretty good. The atmosphere is amazing and I am adding a link to a free audiobook to listen to Alice in Wonderland. If you want I have always loved LibriVox and I highly suggest Everybody donates and help support them I think that is an amazing company that helps people read and listen to old books.
