680.✓UK–Jump on a red double-decker bus.

What is more iconic than a double-decker red bus?

I don’t think there really is anything, At least as far as I am concerned. Paris has the Eiffel Tower and  Canada has maple syrup and a Prime Minister that does blackface and England has the double-Decker bus possible reason why it’s on my bucket list is solely that it’s just so damn well known.

The story.
It’s early in the morning and there’s a brisk wind cutting across my face. I and Rachael get up, get dressed and head out the door; it wakes me up after a restful sleep. I and Rachael are planning to go to the Imperial War Museum but it’s a long ride on – you guessed it from the title – a double-decker bus! Now it may not sound too exciting, the idea of a double-decker bus but as a little kid I’ve always been fascinated and I actually got the chance to cross it off in Hong Kong but I knew deep down inside that I had to do it in England.
Or at least in my eyes it is; I feel very lucky for the opportunity to sit on the double decker bus. I find that it’s an interesting feet of engineering – the simple fact that it doesn’t tip over or break down is all I’m thinking about it while I’m waiting at the bus stop freezing my ass off. I am in the middle of thawing whilst waiting for the bus when I’m shaken out of my trance by Rachael as she tells me that it’s time for us to get on the bus. I quickly throw her my camera and ask her take a photo of me in front of the bus, she affectionately rolls her eyes and does it; what a loving girlfriend. We quickly hop on and I touch my oyster card to the little pad and give a small nod to the bus driver, deep inside I know he’s so cool, and then we walk straight up the stairs and go to the front – it’s the only way!
It’s surprisingly empty except for the slight smell of piss and sweat and regular public transportation odours, but it’s worth it and you can’t complain. It’s something that you get used to. Me and Rachael find a leftover newspaper and I start looking at it. No news is good news but most of the news is about Brexit , it’s hanging over us like a big cloud and that’s really all anybody’s thinking about. Well I’m flying high on cloud nine as I’m sitting on a double decker bus like a six-year-old, promptly the magic leaves after 30 minutes of bouncing up and down through the core of London.
I eventually just lay my head on Rachael’s lap and we just start chatting about life and then eventually (thankfully) we get off to go check out the Imperial War Museum – bu that’s another story. We promptly jump off the bus and go about our day. I do sneak a quick look back to see the bus drive off, it is a beautiful thing, it’s so iconic. It’s one of those things you see on tacky postcards and shitty dollar store notebooks and it’s one of those things that you can appreciate once you see it in real life. There is a true history to London and even the buses have one.
But I hope you like this little post and I hope you enjoy the next one.
I love you all and please follow your dreams.
Love Dane.
