20.✓Australia–Go in Gould’s Book Arcade.

You may be asking hay dane why is this on your bucket list? Well the story of this store is a lot cooler than anything else you can think of this Is a true anarchist book store or at lest it use to be. That is why it is omg my bucket list.

The story.

I remember walking around the gentrified as hell Newtown in Australia. Where as Anthony Bourdain would say the people of laptop stand would live.

And I am looking for a book story, but this book store is not like any other I have ever seen this book store was a anarchist book store for the draft dodgers of Vietnam.

As I am walking through the streets of Newtown. I look around and as I pass the 15 gelato/ cafe I start to understand what gentrification looks like.

Surprisingly I did not get lost, When finding the store.

As I walk from here to there into beautiful cafes and cool secondhand stores. I eventually made it to my book store.

Sadly the original place was sold, rent was too high and they had to move into a simpler store. but the punk rock days was still alive in the building. I absolutely loved it I went form section to section looking at the old cool books thinking about life. And looking at all the cook books and amazing albums from yesteryear.

After a few mins of looking I met the owner a very intelligent and very cool woman we chatted about life and eventually. I sat down behind the counter and started asking questions and learning about who she was  and the history of the store. It was a good convo one where time seems to Fly by.

eventually I looked at my clock and realise that an hour and a half is passed. my mind was blown the story she has a crazy.

She stoped me and handed me an old magazine that her father use to print.

The magazine had the ingredients and how to to make bad things for Fun stuff that would be considered illegal.

But none of that happens any more at the store.

Eventually and sadly just like with all the interesting things I was doing. I had to go. I shook her hand and she gave me a  free magazine from back in the 70s.

I loved it that’s the thing.

I learned when you put in the time and talk to people you tend to learn about the world around you and you sometimes make new friends.
