703. ✓France–Salvador Dalí Sundial

Throughout many cities there is scattered beautiful art, whether that is graffiti, statues or in this case a modern art piece which is a clock that looks like it’s from Rembrandt. It’s absolutely beautiful and absolutely amazing.

The story.

“A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others” -Salvador Dali.

Do you think you can get a feeling from the place that you’re standing in, feel something from the people in the past that have walked past you, like standing in that place next to the Eiffel tower where Hitler was walking past? Do you feel a little bit of that evil or do you just walk past there with your ice cream in your hand thinking about anything else? I am always thinking about the people who pass me. What if you were to stand right under the clock made by famous contemporary artist Salvador Dali? Would you feel the artistic flows running through you? I don’t know if I thought that but I did go to the Salvador Dali clock in Paris and I have to say that it was quite an interesting afternoon. I’ve done everything from seeing the Mona Lisa and the Eiffel tower so I can’t complain about what I’ve seen but the Salvador Dali clock is quite interesting.

The Salvador Dali clock was installed in 1966 with the famous artist installing it himself. If you look at the bottom right corner you can see a signature from him that he signed at the time and it’s interesting to think that such a famous painter stood there just a couple years ago… Okay well not a couple years ago but things like that are just a beauty to my life. It is a true skill to notice the beauty around you in this world we live in where the media and everything you were meant to believe is complete and utter sadness. But the world is getting better, it’s not perfect but it is getting better, and to look at the small beautiful things around you does definitely help your mood. I always wonder if any famous people walk past where I have been. It’s a beautiful idea and it a beautiful clock, a lot of people have seen the shell. I think it’s an actual self portrait of Salvador Dali but the shell face is meant to reference the scallop, a symbol of the pilgrimage of St. Jacques de Compostella. I love art and I especially love public art, and to be able to stand in a place like that and see such a beautiful piece of art is something that you will miss if you weren’t looking for it. It makes me feel so lucky.

I hope you enjoy this little post and I hope you guys get a chance to follow your dreams as well and remember to always look in the surroundings, you never know what you might see.
